Semana del lunes 17 de marzo de 2014

ICAI IEM/ITL 3º/4º EPP:

What we did in class on Monday: We swapped our gap fill exercises + Course book p66: we started to think about a business plan for the product we came up with a couple of weeks ago.

Homework for Wednesday: No homework.

What we did in class on Wednesday: Course book p66-67

Homework for Monday, March 24th: Course book p68 Text Reconstruction (ASSESSED i.e. it will be part of this semester's continuous evaluation). If you don't want to tear the page off, either make a photocopy or type it, in any case don't forget to write your name.

E1 1º Business English:

What we did in class on Monday: Worksheet 2.3 + activity on 2 articles from The Guardian. Student A (Britain's five richest families...) had to identify 10 words they didn't understand, look up the definition -choose the right one according to the context of course- and then create an exercise similar to the vocab-searching activity we normally do on articles from The Economist, i.e. providing the type of word between brackets e.g. (noun) and the definition for each word (without disclosing the word of course). Student B did the same with their article (A boost for Childcare...).

Homework for Wednesday: Type your 10 vocabulary questions + do stage 2: identify 10 important pieces of information evenly distributed throughout the text and create (and type) questions of the type: How long did it take the government to respond?

What we did in class on Wednesday: We finished Monday's activity and started compiling all the new vocabulary. Rafa opened a google docs file we can now all access. Here are the details of the account: businessenglishicade@gmail.com / password: ask Rafa if you don't remember it. Hint: it collocated with mazo... ;)

Homework forMonday: Go to google docs. Enter the document in question and update it with one of your words (make sure it isn't already in the list) along with its definition (check that the definition you are including is the right one i.e. that it fits the context of the article it comes from). Use the same layout.

E2/E4 2º Business English, Communication Skills Tuesday group:

What we did in class on Tuesday: Course book p27-30. Note: Overhead refers to the expenses of having a business that are not attributable directly to the production or sale of goods which is why they are also called indirect costs or fixed costs (the latter being the one I use...). Rent and office supplies are good examples of overhead.

Homework for Tuesday: View the following video on Facebook's flotation in 2012 and complete the following sentences:
Investors expected the shares to...
No, you can't buy...
It was day 6 of...
GM was pulling...
The move comes as the auto maker...
